Last night, one of my favourite brands, Coast, took us to The Royal Ballet for a very special performance of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by Christopher Wheeldon. To celebrate their new collaboration with the ballet, Coast took a group of bloggers along so we could experience first hand the inspiration behind their latest project. Honestly, I was totally blown away. I am passionate about performance, but thought ballet might be lost on me. I was so wrong.
The Royal Opera House itself, is an impressive building and the main auditorium was designed in the Victorian era. We were lucky enough to have a private tour and not only admire the magnificently decorated auditorium, but check out the studios where the dancers rehearse and learnt about their rigorous daily routines. In addition, we browsed around The Royal Ballet’s costume workrooms where Coasts designers were given access to inspire this beautiful and dramatic new collection.
The production was ingenious. Every tiny detail is magnificently mastered. The set design and costumes were utterly enchanting, the orchestra are hypnotic and the dancers totally mesmerising. Outstanding performances were given by Beatrice Stix-Brunell who played Alice, Vadim Muntagirov who plays the Knave of Hearts/Jack Fernando Montaña as Rajah/Caterpillar, The Queen of Hearts and the White Rabbit.
I am lucky enough to have already had a sneak preview of the collection, but I’m not allowed to show any images yet. The exclusive eight-piece Christmas collection will launch in November. Expect to see Coasts usual elegant style with a ballet-inspired twist. I look forward to featuring more in my blog soon!
